Spreading the holiday cheer...

You're nearly there. Finals week is almost here and then you'll be done. Why would I say such a thing, well not to send you into a panic but to encourage you that the end is in sight. As you are gearing up for the holiday season and a nice long break, I wanted to share a couple of things with you. First, we will be open during the break with the exception of the week of Christmas. Feel free to come in and see us, stock up on some light reading or movies. In the spirit of spreading a little holiday cheer, we've put up an all about Christmas display in the Library. It's filled with books, audio books and movies that are about Christmas, Hanukkah, and the holiday season. Some of my favorites, I thought I'd share here. Favorite Christmas reads: J.R.R. Tolkein's The Father Christmas letters, Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales, Dickens' A Christmas Carol (of course) and though it's not really about Christmas, my all time favorite book to read at Christmas time is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I've never read another novel that was more about the true spirit of giving and compassion than this, and it is the perfect book for staying inside and reading for hours on end. These are all great picks for the winter break and we have many more as well, including Christmas stories by popular authors such as Mary Higgins Clark, Janet Evanovich, John Grisham, and Truman Capote among others.
If you are looking for a good holiday film, we have those too. My all time favorite Christmas movies is easily, White Christmas starring Bing Crosby. The close second is The Family Stone with Sarah Jessica Parker and Diane Keaton. If you haven't seen this yet, it is definitely a must! Every should watch this film, you'll laugh, you'll cry, you may even do both at the same time. Now some of you guys are thinking, "Chick flick" but no, it's truly an everyone film. Trust me. We also have many others ranging from Red Skelton's Christmas Jollies to the A&E biography of Santa Claus.
Good Luck. Study well. Happy Holidays.
