World Aids Day!

Teaming up with the Diversity Council, the Library is promoting World AIDS Day. This is a day set aside around the world to remind us that there is a global killer out there and we still have not found a cure. Recent articles and research show that AIDS is again on the rise in the United States, especially in young people. The threat isn't real to many as it's not an epidemic that youth have witnessed. Yet, it is still a very real issue today. For more information on the AIDS epidemic, visit the United Nations site. There are a variety of ways to contract AIDS. The UN site will give you the most information on this. There is also information in the Library that you can pick up and take with you. If you are are wondering if are at risk, get tested. It's easy and it's free. For a local testing center, check here. The World AIDS Campaign is a great place to find out more about the global aspect of this disease and how to help. It's about more than just you and me, and only together can we make a difference. Of the universities and community colleges in our surrounding area, TVCC is only one that has not taken the One Campaign challenge. You may have heard of the name as it was started and is promoted by Bono, the lead singer of U2. This is a great organization with fun and interactive ways that YOU can make a difference and help everyday. They have a campus challenge for all college and university students. For those of you who are interested in starting a local One group, there's lots of info on their website. There are a million ways that we can make a difference in the world, and each one matters. Take some time this holiday season to think about what you can do.
