Our moments of thankfulness

Today is an excellent day to talk about thankfulness as many of you are feeling it.  The sun is finally shining, the sky is blue, the weekend is here. **pause for cheers**  And we thought today we be the perfect day to share with you all, our students and community, how great we here in the Library think you are.  And it all started with our thankfulness project.  A few of you have commented online about what you are thankful for.  A lot of you have come up and let us know in person what this project has meant for you.  And an incredible number have come and written on our wall.  In fact, we've run out of space to write.  So many lovely things you've had to say that we thought we share them with the rest of the world because we know just how very encouraging and uplifting they are.  Yes, we know. Our staff gets to look at them every day!
For our January gratefulness project, here are some of the over 100 responses you've given us so far.
In answer to the question, what are you thankful for today...
warm showers -- my husband!!!! -- holding hands -- my dog, cat, and Monte Cristo sandwiches -- a good hug after a long day -- zumba and volleyball!!!! -- Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, Johannes Kepler, Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson and all those brave astronauts & cosmonauts -- sobriety & friends -- opportunities -- 2nd chances, 3rd chances, 4th chances -- my parents -- BOOKS -- evolution -- pizza -- having a job and being able to go to school with the support of my family -- Ellen Degeneres! She always makes me laugh. -- homemade soup on a cold day -- That I am healthy -- People who see you and make you realize that you matter -- yoga -- mi amore -- Having my Dad as my Dad (best Dad ever) --

And so many more...Thank you for sharing these with us.

Beyond making the Library staff all smile each day with your comments, you've inspired each other.  We want to expand that and spread the cheer.  So, for the month of February, here's the challenge:
We want you to do another 30 days of Gratefulness yourself and share it with us.  How?

For our in-Library users, keep writing on our wall.  We love it!

For our Pinterest users, make a thankfulness board and post something each day.  We like PrettyinPosies' project boards.  You can read here and get some ideas or just search for

For our Instagram peeps, here's just one of the ideas to get you started.

And don't forget to share them with us.

30 days of gratitude photo ideas

For our journal writers, ask yourself at the end of each day what one thing made your day okay.  It could be something great, something extraordinary, something small, something simple.  Just write the one thing and then let us know some by the end of the month.

And just because, we will be giving away copies of Brene Brown's book The Gifts of Imperfection, among other prizes, at the end of the month to some of our Gratefulness project participants.  Not sure if this sounds like your cup of tea?  We promise that there is so much wonder and loveliness in this book, every one of you will find something worth listening in it.  Such as what Brown has to say about a full life, “Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It’s going to bed at night thinking, Yes I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid but that doesn’t change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging.”

And on that note, enjoy the sunshine and the weekend.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
