It's Time To Celebrate

Guess what today is?

It's the beginning of National Library Week!!!  Woohoo!

Oh yes, we are excited.
National Library Week is all about celebrating libraries, why we have them, what they mean to us, and all that libraries do.
At the TVCC Library, here's how we celebrate.  We do cool things for you.  That's what libraries are all about, serving each and every person who walks through their doors, clicks on their app, pops by their website, etc.  We like all of you and are glad you've found your way to us.
So, let us start by saying... THANK YOU! for being a part of our everyday, for finding friends in the books on our shelves, for taking home our music and movies, for asking us questions and letting us help you find answers, for telling us what you think each and every day.  This is why we are here and what we enjoy most.  Yep, that's how we celebrate.  We say thank you.  And this year, we are doing that with daily prizes you can win, one big and awesome grand prize at the end of the week, and free pie and dessert for everyone on Friday!
How can you participate and celebrate too?

First, stop and see us everyday to enter into our daily prize contest or post your answers on our Facebook page.  The prizes are fantastic, in case you were wondering.

Second, you can share your library love with us.  Oh, yes, we want to hear from you!  Tell us why you like libraries or our library.  Tell us why you are glad libraries exist.  Tell us how a library or librarian has helped you.  Be creative.  Have fun.  You can send us a picture, write us a story or a poem, send us a card, an email, make us a meme...or all of the above. You can join with millions across the U.S. in celebrating by taking your library love online and Tweeting about what you've done because of libraries (details here).  Or send us your Tweets @LibraryTvcc.  #NLW15 or #NationalLibraryWeek  You can reply here on our blog or on our Facebook page with your library love.  All of this gets you entered into our grand prize drawing.  Everyone can play!  We want to hear from all of you!!

And finally, you can stop by the Library on Friday where we will have some delicious pies, cheesecakes, etc to share with all of you.  So stop by and see us anytime between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for some sweet treats.

Just want to say I appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and help received everytime I come into the library. It doesn't go unnoticed.

The writer Jose Luis Borges said, ‘I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.’ This quote is at the top of the entrance to the main branch of Multnomah County Library in Portland. I love what Borges said and believe it to be true myself.
I always have grown up around books. My parents read a lot, and from the time we were children, so did we. Libraries provide a home for books, especially for those who are unable to house them, themselves. From fiction to scientific fact, one can find wonderful books to read, to give us something to think about and talk about. And now it isn't just print material. A wide variety of audiobooks, as well as film and music are available. Libraries have blossomed since I was a child, and it is wonderful. Borges may be referring to the afterlife in imagining paradise, but paradise for some of us, hopefully more, is right here on earth. In a library.
