American Indian heritage

I wanted to point out our to those of you who've missed it, our display honoring American Indians. Last month we were featuring the Buddhist religion. This month we are featuring the American Indian culture and heritage. We have some fantastic materials on the Native American history in this country in their own words as well as some materials on what life is like in their culture today. One of the most interesting to read through is the book "Lies my teacher told me about Christopher Columbus," which is a quick and easy read while at the same time showing us some facts that history books commonly leave out. A beautiful book that came out a couple of years ago that is well worth the read is "Paddling to where I stand" about the life of a modern day Indian noblewoman and her journey through the decades to life today. We have two wonderful videos that you've been checking out with great frequency, but if you've missed them, I wanted to let you know they are here. The first is the film "500 nations," a mini-series narrated by Kevin Costner on the plight of the Indians. It's an amazing documentary that brings what we thought we knew about Indians to a whole new light. We also have the mini-series "How the West was lost" for this month only, so come see it while you can. There are several other important books for your convenience on display here such as "I will fight no more forever" by Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce and "Bury my heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown and several others.
Also, if you haven't yet checked out our Author of the Month display or read the blog on Howard Zinn, I encourage you to do so.
Have a great week!
