January and Gratefulness
The great thing about January is that it is truly a time for new beginnings. I've never been one for the traditional New Year's Resolutions, but it is the beginning of a new year. Most of us have settled into where we are at. The fall and all of the holiday chaos is over. And now, we can really take a deep breath and look forward into the year to come. For the library, the fall term is always fast, full, and over before we know it. So, January is the time where we can really stop and focus on you, our students and faithful followers, investing our energy and time into bringing you great things. And this year, we have more planned for the next 11 weeks than ever.
The negative thing about January is that it is really cold, dry, and, here in the Treasure Valley, pretty foggy or gray. As we all trudge back to campus carrying stacks of books and homework that we wish wasn't actually there, leaving the warmth of comforters, pillows, etc., finding motivation, enthusiasm, or even joy in the moment is quite the challenge. I get it. A steaming cup of tea, a blanket, of course a book, and my couch sound practically heavenly right now. However, I think we can make more of this term than just getting through it and passing classes. I came across a video during Christmas break that made me think about how disheartening even anticipating coming back to campus and all that it entails is. What if, we could find something each day to make us smile. Sure, you have BIO homework on the first day of school. Maybe you skipped one too many classes last term and have to retake a course. Or you just began going to TVCC for the first time and who knew it was going to be so freakin' cold here...
Rather than dwell on the crummy part of the day or week, how would life feel if we found something to enjoy each day. So, here's the video that I watched. And guess what? We are going to do this! So, each day, or as often as you can, take a picture and send it to us. You can submit it here, post it on our Facebook page, or email it to us at library@tvcc.cc. We want to know what you found to be thankful for today. At the end of the term, you can all vote on the best photo for a fantastic prize. This will be our TVCC gratefulness project. So share your thoughts or pics and we will start something incredible right here and now despite the cold outside.
Ready...set....go!
