Art at the TVCC Library
For May, the TVCC Library is sponsoring A Month of Art. In honor of our commitment to the absolute freedom of creativity and expression on campus, we will be sharing with you and collecting from you, Art. All month long, you can create art and submit it to the Library. At the end of the month, we will have a Gallery Night. This is open to students as well as all members of the community.
With some excellent student feedback, the Library’s art theme this month is Finding Joy. We want to challenge you to find joy and express it through art.
How to get started…. Do our seven day Instagram Photo Challenge which we launched last week! Take a pic and send it in or post it on Instagram with the TVCC prompts. Tag us @tvcclibrary and use the hastags #FindYourJoy #IAmTVCC.
Not an Instagram fan? You can still participate! Take your seven photos that follow the challenge and get them to us.
Not a photography enthusiast? You can still participate!
Because we are all about books and art, make your own book art. Yes, we will be making some of our own to share.
What is book art? Oh, the possibilities are endless. Below are a couple of examples of some of the incredible things people creating with books. Want to see more? Check out our Pinterest page. Or just Google book dresses (yes this is really a big deal), book carving, book sculptures…the list goes on.
Now, before you skip past and think, I don’t know how to make any of this, read on.
Don’t worry if some of this seems too intense. These examples are from artists, but we know that you all have something you can contribute…
To help you out, the Library will have book pages, books, and other supplies available during the month where you can come for inspiration, to work on projects, for help with your projects, to get supplies, etc. To get started or experiment with this, the Library is the place to be.
Not much of an artist but want to try it out? Try something fun and easy. Black-out Poetry. Never heard of it? That too we can help you with.
Come to our BlackOut Poetry Workshop on Tuesday, May 22nd from 2-4. Stop by anytime and we will show you how to make something that is you!
At the end of the month, make sure and send us your art submissions. All entries are due the 1st of June. Then, to show off what you've made, the Library will be hosting a Gallery Night where you can come in the evening and view the creations and submissions from the entire local community. We will have refreshments, music, and some wonderful pieces to view. So put that night on your calendar even if you don't make something.
We look forward to seeing what you create!!
The Gallery Night is scheduled for June 7th at 6:00 p.m.
