Oregon Open Ed Week

March 4-8, 2019. Celebrating free and accessible educational resource at TVCC.

OER, or Open Educational Resources, are valuable tools that are making waves at college campus's the world over. But what exactly is an OER? Well, this word cloud gives us something of an idea.

To create this cloud, we analysed a series of posts from David Wiley's OER blog, Iterating Toward Openness, which is licensed under an Attribution 4.0 International License. As you can see, OER centers around LEARNING with FREE and OPEN materials. Textbook prices should never block anyone from obtaining their college degree, so a core tenet of OER is that students should not have to pay for information. OER also increasing accessibility to information by encouraging instructors to publish under open licenses, like those from Creative Commons, that allow information to be shared, remixed, and retained with the proper attributions.

This week, we invite you, along with other students, faculty, and staff, to learn more about OER as a resource and as a practice by attending a series of educational events.

MArch 4th 11:30-1:00 pm, SCI 128. How to find courses that use affordable textbook options and become part of OER at TVCC
